Seguridad del paciente en la práctica odontológica

Abstract

Patient safety is a discipline that seeks to reduce unnecessary damage suffered by patients as a result of care and identify opportunities to improve outcomes of clinical interventions. Objectives: to identify, analyze and assess adverse events related to dental practice. Material and Methods: Observational study of voluntary reports of adverse events in dentistry given treatment type, event type and severity. Results: EA 208 voluntary reports of Dentistry were collected. Depending on the type of treatment: 102 occurred during surgery, 52 in Endodontics, Prosthodontics 22, 14 in dental surgery, 7 in Orthodontics, Periodontics 3 others (8). Regarding the type of event: 131 were for problems related to attention or procedure: 74 errors by improper handling of the art, 20 errors in planning, 22 events due to fractures instrumental, 9 in the tooth to be treated and 6 errors Area intervene. Accidents (n = 42) 29 notifications of cuts, burns, fractures, bone or tooth table is received; 8 ingestion / aspiration of dental materials and 4 eye damage. Related to medication (n = 21) (adverse drug reactions-19- and errors in medication-2). According to severity: increased transient lesion (54); permanent injury dentaria- less-loss of the part (18). Conclusions: Errors in dentistry occur, are mild but repetitive potentially dangerous. It is necessary to implement actions to create a culture where patient safety expecting a notification system to show us the current reality.
