Abstract

[EN] The following thesis will take an overview over the support systems historically employed towards mosaic restoration after being inefficiently pulled out or when it¿s just partially preserved. This study is focused in pieces from Roman culture. The analysis of several specialised journals and magazines, back in the 70¿s to nowadays, leads us to conclusions about the evolution of this archaeological discipline. Followed by a practical file where new solutions are proposed in both, in the intervention and exposition phase. The main item of study will be a fragment Roman mosaic found at Villa Cornelius (Els Alters, L¿Ènova, València) That shall be the part of the thesis where we set up the new solution to the most commonly used support materials used during restoration and conservation works over the piece. One of the things that moved us to find new conservation and restoration solutions lies in the existence of original mortar on the mosaic. Thus we look for viable alternatives to preserve as much material as possible through the use of preparation layers by new conservative techniques and newer materials minimising material loss.
