Abstract

Neotectonics and Seismicity of Gemlik (Bursa) Surroundings Key Words: Gemlik, Neotectonics, Neogene, Earthquake, North Anatolian Fault Abstact: This study was carried out for distinguishing the Neogene sediments, neotectonic features and investigating the seismicity of Gemlik Area. The bedrock of the area include Paleozoic, Mesozoic and Lower Tertiary aged metamorphic, magmatic and sedimentary rocks. The bedrock is overlain by a Neogene sedimantary sequence. This sedimantary sequence overlays the bedrock unconformabry in some places. However, there are geologic boundaries between the bedrock and Neogene controlled by the faults in other places This Neogene sedimantary sequence has been named as Gündoğdu Formation and separated into three members that are grilled and conformable with each other. The member at the bottom named Selçukgazi member consists of lacustrine limestone, clayey lacustrine limestone and gravelly limestone. This unit developed as deposits in a lacustrine basin in the South of Gemlik in late Miocene. The second member, Ovaakça member, is composed of claystone, sandstone and conglomerate. The Ostrea, Pelecypoda and Planorbis fossils available in the second member indicate a fresh water deposition environment. The last member, Şehitlik Tepe member, located on top of the other two members is composed of marl and is considered as a unit deposited in a shallow lacustrine environment. Quaternery unit is located around the stream beds and plains. The thickness of this unit containing gravel, sand, silt and clay is 60 m. in Engûrü plain and 100 m. in Gemlik Plain. Present structural features and morphology have been developed by the North Anatolian Fault (NAF) activities since Upper Miocene - Pliocene. Gemlik (Bursa) Dolayının Neotektoniği ve Depremselliği İlknur ÖZ Anahtar Kelimeler: Gemlik, Neotektonik, Neojen, Deprem, Kuzey Anadolu Fayı Özet: Bu çalışma, Gemlik bölgesinin Neojen çökellerinin ayırtlanması, neotektonik özelliklerinin belirlenmesi ve depremselliğinin incelenmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır. Bölgede Paleozoyik, Mesozoyik ve Alt Tersiyer yaşlı metamorfik, mağmatik ve çökel nitelikli temel kayaları yer alır. Temel kayaları üzerinde ise Neojen yaşlı çökel nitelikli örtü istifi yer alır. Örtü istifi temeldeki istifleri bazı yerlerde uyumsuz olarak üzerlerken, bazı yerlerde de istifin kontakları faylarla kontrol edilmiştir. örtü istifine bu çalışmada Gündoğdu formasyonu adı verilmiştir. Üst Miyosen - Ah Pliyosen yaşlı formasyon birbiriyle geçişli ve uyumlu olan üç üyeye ayrılmıştır. Formasyonun tabanındaki Selçukgazi üyesi gölsel kireçtaşı, killi kireçtaşı ve çakıllı kireçtaşmdan oluşmaktadır. Birim Gemlik güneyinde Geç Miyosen' de gelişmiş gölsel havzada göl çökelleri olarak oluşmuştur. Ovaakça üyesi ise başlıca kiltaşı, kumtaşı, çakıltaşından oluşur. Birimin litolojik ve paleontolojik içeriği tatlı su ortamında çökelmeyi yansıtır. İstifin tavanında yer alan marndan oluşan, Şehitlik Tepe üyesi'nin Pliyosen'de gelişen sığ göl ortamında çökeldiği düşünülmektedir. Kuvatemer ise çalışma alanında akarsu yatakları çevresinde ve düzlüklerde görülmektedir. Üst Miyosen (?) - Pliyosen'de Kuzey Anadolu Fayı (KAF)'nm Marmara Bölgesi'ne ulaşmasıyla bölgede günümüz yapısal unsurları ve morfolojisi gelişmiştir. KAFZ bölgede başlıca Gemlik ve Gençali Fayları ile temsil edilir.
