Astăzi sunt instituite mai multe mecanisme privind respectarea şi protecția drepturilor omului de către poliţie, cum ar fi: implementarea prevederilor şi standardelor internaționale, elaborarea şi aplicarea codurilor de etică şi deontologie, determinarea şi stabilirea responsabilităților, dezvoltarea unei culturi polițienești relevante realităților sociale existente, instruirea şi pregătirea profesională, punerea în aplicare a procedurilor standard de operare.
