Abstract

En el transcurso de este siglo hemos asistido a una explosión en múltiples direcciones de los estudios dedicados a la cultura tradicional. En primer lugar, la antropología (Boas 1911; Malinowski 1973 [1922]) y el folklore (Propp 1972 [1928]; Dundes 1964) aportaron esquemas válidos para llevar a cabo los procesos de identificación, recolección y posterior interpretación de las manifestaciones tradicionales. Más tarde, diferentes corrientes lingüísticas, desde el estructural ismo (Jakobson 1945 y 1976; Mukarovsky 1977) hasta la semiótica (Lotman 1979), permitieron la consideración de los ”artefactos" tradicionales a partir de enfoques múltiples aplicables a distintas áreas de las ciencias sociales. La literatura tradicional, muy lejos de permanecer al margen de estas disquisiciones teóricas, fue quizás el campo más propicio, convertido prontamente en material de laboratorio de variadas perspectivas. La esencia lingüística de las documentaciones, sumada a su rica significación social, convirtió a los textos literarios en unidades fácilmente decodificables en sus diferentes niveles de articulación, que funcionaron como modelo posible de transportar a otras disciplinas.
