PlayRisC - Playing for Resilience and Cognitive control

Description

Play is fun and important. Play facilitates the development of social, emotional and cognitive skills that are essential for optimal functioning in adulthood. Here we posit that play has the potential to stimulate resilience against the unexpected, thereby improving mental health. To delineate the impact of play on the development of cognitive control and resilience, we will compare rats that experienced different degrees of play during early life for their degree of cognitive control in relation to stress and engagement of the prefrontal cortex. Understanding how play shapes resilience is essential for the prevention of mental health problems.
