GAMES for innovative global citizenship education FOR the Sustainable Development GOALS

Description

"<< Background >>Le Partenariat believes that education for citizenship, international solidarity, and sustainable development can respond to the UN's call to ""generate an irresistible movement for the necessary transformations"" in support of the SDGs. To this end, Games for Goals aimed to provide keys to understanding global challenges, in order to mobilize stakeholders to take individual and collective action.Games for Goals thus addressed the following key needs:- for teachers: lack of quality and accessible resources, particularly innovative educational activities (playful, active, collaborative, embodied, and transformative), and lack of opportunities to gain experience and share practices in citizenship and international solidarity education;- for students: diversification of teaching methods, strengthening multidisciplinary and cooperative aspects to enable students to experience citizenship and the search for collective solutions.<< Objectives >>Games for Goals aimed to support innovative teaching of global citizenship and sustainable development in primary education in Europe. We therefore sought to contribute to improving the sustainable development skills of primary school teachers by preparing them to become agents of change, particularly through the development of interpersonal skills, critical thinking, and self-reflection, as well as through the design of new resources for their use.In other words, Games for Goals aimed to improve the capacity of primary school teachers in Europe to integrate Education for Citizenship, International Solidarity, and Sustainable Development (ECSI-SD) into their activities. Its ultimate goal is to contribute to building a better world by empowering teachers to better inspire action and behavioral changes in their students.Specifically, our objective was to develop innovative teaching resources, facilitate their use, and increase their visibility. Games for Goals also aimed to provide opportunities for the exchange of practices around teachers' action towards the SDGs in Europe.<< Implementation >>We structured our action around three main components:- the creation of a catalog of innovative educational resources available across Europe and structured around the SDGs;- the design of three new fun activities on global citizenship and sustainable development (educational games) around themes selected by a panel of primary school teachers from different partner countries. The prototypes were developed during international and multidisciplinary student mobility programs, and the first versions were tested directly with students and teachers before being finalised.- methodological support for teachers to enrich their educational practices, notably through the co-construction of a tool aimed at supporting the integration of innovative methods in primary schools. In addition, communication, capitalization, and dissemination activities were carried out in the various partner countries.<< Results >>Games for Goals has produced several deliverables, primarily for primary school education.- a catalog of over 50 innovative educational resources;- a game about water (Aqua Heroes);- a game about biodiversity (Planète Vivo);- a game about children's rights (Ticket to Rights);- a methodology (Do It Yourself) to guide teachers in creating innovative activities for their classes;- three capitalization articles, particularly on the co-creation process of the deliverables listed above.Other notable results include:- the active participation of several educational stakeholders throughout the creative process, thus contributing to strengthening collaboration mechanisms and intercultural exchange;- several spin-off activities carried out by partners, demonstrating the indirect effects generated by the stakeholders' commitment to the SDGs and innovative education;- the development of skills of partner organizations in supporting the creation of educational games, based on the experimentation of new co-construction methods."
