Description

"<< Background >>We embarked on the ""The Choice is Yours"" project to support LGBTQ+ youth in entering the job market. In local communities, we identified exclusionary environments, both in schools and workplaces. The lack of training for educators further complicates the situation for young LGBTQ+. A report from the European Commission confirmed that discrimination in employment still persists. As project leaders, we decided to counter this issue by creating training materials, recommendations, and fostering awareness in the work environment. The decision to apply for funding stemmed from the belief that international partnerships hold significant potential in addressing these challenges. Our aim was to establish universal standards of communication and collaboration, fostering social integration for LGBTQ+ youth while also considering potential employers. We applied to collectively enhance opportunities for youth, elevate the skills of youth workers, and exchange knowledge internationally. Our goal was to demonstrate that we possess the tools to support LGBTQ+ youth and create conditions for their dignified lives. This endeavor reflects our passion and commitment to positive change, benefiting both young individuals and potential employers.<< Objectives >>As part of the ""The Choice is Yours"" project, our aim was to support LGBTQ+ youth in overcoming societal barriers and shaping unified communication standards. By developing the skills of youth workers and potential employers, we sought to promote equality, justice, tolerance, and civic engagement. In collaborative efforts with Greece, Croatia, and Bulgaria, we organized meetings, training courses, and a concluding conference. Our objectives included raising social awareness, understanding the needs of LGBTQ+ youth, and training and motivating youth workers. Our efforts aimed to improve job offerings for youth, strengthen organizational structures, and enhance the project's visibility at the European level. The target groups encompassed project staff, youth workers, engaged youth, potential employers, and youth organizations. Our actions are intended to have a lasting impact on the environment, creating a space for equality and acceptance in society.<< Implementation >>1) Kick-off meeting (Leszno, Poland): During the partner meeting in Poland, we conducted a study visit to Wrocław, delving into the best practices of ""Stowarzyszenie Różnorodności Społecznej UP-DATE"".2) LTTA (Athens, Greece): We participated in a training session that expanded our knowledge of gender identity and the diversity of the LGBTQ+ community. Workshops such as ""living library"" and theatrical workshops helped us better understand the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals in the job market. During the study visit, the ""Emfasis Foundation"" also presented the issue of homelessness among young LGBTQ+ people. Our experiences, including participation in a festival of queer short films, were a valuable contribution to the development of our publication.3) Conference (Wrocław, Poland): The conference served as a platform to present recommendations for employers and educators. We discussed the project stages, showcasing significant progress in creating an inclusive environment. Workshops aided in understanding the challenges of young LGBTQ+ individuals and support strategies. We also joined the Wrocław Equality Parade, emphasizing our commitment to equality.<< Results >>Within the project, a publication titled ""Recommendations for potential employers and youth workers working with young LGBTIQ+"" was created. This publication organizes knowledge through a glossary, supporting youth workers, teachers, and educators with training materials and document templates. For potential employers, it provides guidance on responsible management, dealing with negative attitudes, preparing an inclusive recruitment process, and case studies.Additionally, content for young LGBTQ+ individuals guides them on constructing CVs, applications, and preparing for job interviews. The publication includes a list of organizations where they can seek support. Our guide serves as a roadmap for those working with LGBTQ+ youth and employers, promoting a work environment based on respect, empathy, dignity, and tolerance. It is significant support for young LGBTQ+ individuals, and the partnership's recommendations could become uniform standards in Europe and beyond."
