Virtual learning environment in smart mini factory

Description

<< Background >>The project partners had varied motivations:YSAO: Acquired an SMF factory, seeking knowledge and skills enhancement in Industry 4.0, aligning with regional demand. MERCANTEC: Invited due to expertise in automation and programming; aimed at creating Industry 4.0 educational materials. CBS: First European venture for collaborative learning; goals included knowledge broadening, cultural understanding, hands-on experience, language skills enhancement, and preparation for the digitalized working world. SAVONIA: Saw opportunity for their IoT degree program; focused on best practices from German and Danish vocational schools, sensor data collection, data-driven manufacturing, and collaboration with YSAO. Emphasized sustainability and added value to existing cooperation. In summary, YSAO aimed at enhancing SMF factory skills, Mercantec at creating educational materials, CBS at broader knowledge and cultural understanding, and Savonia at enhancing their IoT program and strengthening regional cooperation.<< Objectives >>The VLEFACT project, a collaborative effort among YSAO, MERCANTEC, CBS, and SAVONIA, aimed to enhance smart factory learning. It brought together diverse expertise to achieve common objectives. Project modules covered topics like AR, cobot collaboration, digital twins, sensor data, and data-driven manufacturing. Practical case studies and real-world applications were emphasized, fostering a rich learning environment. The collaboration went beyond tangible outcomes, creating a European network and promoting continuous cooperation. The project's success lies in its collective impact on smart factory education, offering a comprehensive and immersive learning experience for participants.<< Implementation >>The VLEFACT project encompassed various activities:Project Management:Coordination of overall project activitiesDefining project objectives, activities, outcomes, and budgetManaging partnership dynamics, resolving conflicts, and promoting teamworkMonitoring project progress, timelines, budget utilization, and deliverablesProject Meetings:Online and on-location meetings for planning, coordination, and decision-makingSteering committee establishment during the kick-off meetingDevelopment Activities:Designing and developing Learning Modules (LM) on smart factory topicsCrafting comprehensive instructions for AR feature implementationCreating Micro Units (MUs) on various subjects, enhancing learning experiencesLTTA and ME Events:Learning, Teaching, and Training Activities (LTTAs) focusing on practical tasksMultiplier Events (MEs) showcasing project outcomes and achievementsWorkshops on troubleshooting, VR programming, sensor communication, and moreDissemination Activities:Sharing project materials on the VLEFact project portalEfficiently managing the project's website and social media channelsPublishing peer-reviewed scientific articles on the VLEFACT websitePromoting continuous dissemination through various channelsThese diverse activities collectively contributed to the success and impact of the VLEFACT project, fostering collaborative learning and enriching the smart factory education experience for participants.<< Results >>The collaborative project produced concrete results across five learning modules. Notable achievements include developing Micro Units (MUs) covering communication techniques, controlling methods, and applications like turning and working with digital twins. Practical case studies were organized, emphasizing real-world applications. Technical challenges in LM4 led to using Google Cloud and IoT Cloud for prototype purposes. LM5 focused on data collection and analysis, sending data to Siemens Mindsphere for analysis, and utilizing Azure to create dashboards for factory management. The smart factory concept was integrated into teaching lab works, locally and remotely, enabling corrective actions in industrial manufacturing. Future developments are planned to incorporate cyber security measures and data transmission standards. All modules and the case studies video can be found on the project website https://vlefactory.eu/ without registration.
