<< Background >>The DISCO project emerged from an urgent, Europe-wide need revealed during the COVID-19 pandemic: most career guidance practitioners were unprepared for the sudden shift to online and blended counselling. Many lacked digital tools, pedagogical methods, and confidence to engage effectively with clients, especially vulnerable groups. This created critical barriers to access and quality in career support and VET. At the same time, digitalisation in the labour market was accelerating, making lifelong learning and digital competence more important than ever. DISCO aimed to bridge this gap by supporting the digital transformation of IAG (Information, Advice, and Guidance) services. Our motivation was to ensure that counsellors, especially in VET and adult education, are equipped to guide learners in a changing world—offering inclusive, accessible, and future-proof support through innovative, digitally competent counselling methods.<< Objectives >>Our goal was to empower career counsellors and guidance practitioners to deliver high-quality, accessible services in digital and blended formats. We aimed to strengthen their digital competences, pedagogical tools, and confidence to support clients—especially those furthest from the labour market or education. Specifically, the project sought to: (1) develop innovative learning resources and methods tailored to blended and online counselling contexts; (2) promote cultural and operational shifts within VET and adult education systems, enabling organisations to adapt to digital transformation; and (3) foster inclusive, learner-centered guidance practices aligned with current labour market needs. These objectives directly respond to our previously selected EU priorities on digital readiness and inclusive education, aiming to reduce inequalities by ensuring that both staff and service users are equipped to navigate modern career pathways with resilience and informed choice.<< Implementation >>The DISCO project was structured around five work packages. We started by coordinating the partnership and mapping current challenges in digital guidance. Based on the findings, we co-developed a Methods Concept framework showcasing effective practices for online counselling, especially in crisis settings. A Competence Matrix followed, identifying essential digital skills for guidance professionals. This underpinned the creation of a Modular Blended Learning Programme that was piloted across all partner countries, ensuring practical relevance and adaptability. To support long-term impact, we designed a Train-the-Trainer e-Guide, promoting sustainability and wide uptake. A major achievement was the launch of the DISCO online platform (https://platform.disco-project.org), which hosts all learning materials, videos, and training content. Dissemination included local events, newsletters, social media campaigns, and cross-sector collaboration, ensuring widespread access and engagement among practitioners and institutions across Europe.<< Results >>DISCO delivered four core intellectual outputs: 1) The Methodological Study collecting blended and online counselling techniques, 2) a Competence Matrix to guide staff development, 3) a Modular Blended Learning Programme tailored for guidance professionals, and 4) a Train-the-Trainer e-Guide to support long-term capacity building. All outputs are freely accessible through the dedicated DISCO platform: https://platform.disco-project.org. The project trained and engaged guidance practitioners, improving their digital literacy, confidence, and effectiveness in delivering remote services. Beyond outputs, DISCO fostered transnational learning, institutional innovation, and improved inclusion in VET and adult education. Organisations adapted their practices and tools to better meet the digital expectations of learners and jobseekers. The project laid the groundwork for a more agile, future-ready career guidance system capable of reaching and supporting diverse user groups across Europe, particularly those with fewer opportunities.
