The overall objective of Master program in Nuclear Decommissioning and Environmental Remediation (MINDER) is to fill the gap of skilled professionals in the field of D&ER. MINDER is being developed to tackle this issue by providing top-quality and broad multidisciplinary education in D&ER by training students to i) conduct analyses of complex D&ER multidisciplinary problems; ii) design sustainable solutions for these problems, and iii) develop sustainable implementation strategies for those solutions identified. MINDER contributes to fight climate change, but also to digital transformation and inclusion and diversity. It combines the expertise and experience of prominent groups in D&ER, within and outside the EU. The existence of a considerable number of contaminated sites by radioactive and non-radioactive substances worldwide and nuclear and non-nuclear facilities that need to be decommissioned is a situation that poses a great challenge to our society, particularly if sustainability goals are considered. These two activities require a multidisciplinary approach involving technological, social-economic, and managerial dimensions. The demand for expertise in these areas, i.e., professionals with solid technical and scientific backgrounds who grasp the complexities and multidisciplinary character of D&ER programmes is already a problem to many organisations and the existing gap will soon increase. The Consortium is composed of U.PORTO (PT); VUB (BE); NMBU (NO); FIU (US); FU (JP); and the IRD (BR) and supported by strongly committed Associated Partners: IAEA (AT); PNNL (US); OSU (US); and WISMUT (GE). These partners will provide access to world-class infrastructure for research and development and opportunities for graduating students to continue their studies. The target groups are students, young professionals, public bodies (regulators, policymakers), private/public enterprises, professionals and managers who change their career orientation towards D&ER.
