HALE - Holistic Agroforestry training for Livestock and Ecosystems

Description

The Holistic Agroforestry Training for Livestock and Ecosystems (HALE) project aims to promote agroforestry as an innovative and sustainable approach to livestock farming, aligned with the WHO's ‘One Health’ framework, for the improvement of animal welfare, ecosystem restoration and farmer resilience, and thus contribute to the green transition and policy developments in the European agricultural sector.Agroforestry is the practice of integrating woody vegetation with crop and/or livestock production systems to benefit from the resulting ecological and economic interactions. Although the role of agroforestry in mitigating climate change, improving biodiversity and the resilience of farms is increasingly recognised, the direct benefits it generates for animal welfare have not yet been addressed in terms of training and policy integration. HALE aims to bridge this gap by developing training materials, promoting policy changes and encouraging the exchange of knowledge between farmers, advisors, VET providers, academics and policymakers. The project will achieve its objectives by developing a series of training and awareness-raising materials, including:- A case study handbook that will bring together at least 10 good practices developed in the EU in the field of agroforestry.- Three training modules, each consisting of 4 illustrated practical sheets and 2 video tutorials.- A web-based training platform that will provide easy and flexible access to this content, in line with the needs of farmers.- 7 policy briefs and a promotion and awareness campaign to increase the visibility of HALE policy recommendations.By achieving its objectives and developing the envisaged results, the HALE project aims to make a substantial contribution to the strategic priorities related to the environment and climate action and improving the attractiveness and flexibility of vocational education and training.
