HEAL - Enhancement of special oral healthcare practice and lifelong learning among dental practitioners in Georgia

Description

The aim of the project is to contribute to shaping and enhancing oral health workforce by upgrading/modernizing the curricula of dentistry programmes at Georgian Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and equipping students with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide high quality dental care and service to patients with disabilities in Georgia. The main objectives of the project are: (1) modernising existing dentistry programme curricula at HEIs in Tbilisi, Imereti, and Adjara regions by updating/upgrading existing courses with theoretical components and practical approaches for providing oral healthcare services to the people with disabilities using latest technologies and techniques; (2) practical training of the students and academic staff of the dentistry programmes at partner Georgian HEIs; (3) providing oral healthcare workers in Tbilisi, Imereti, and Adjara regions with lifelong learning (LLL) training opportunities and facilities by developing and offering special training modules; (4) raising awareness among patients with disabilities and their caregivers on the importance and accessibility of oral healthcare services. As the result of the project, five courses will be updated and employed in the existing curricula as mandatory courses; recommendations on the modernization of the curriculum will be developed and shared with policy makers and stakeholders at the national level; 120 students and 60 academic staff members at four partner Georgian HEIs will be trained in the usage of the latest technologies, approaches and techniques to provide quality oral healthcare service to patients with disabilities; three LLL modules will be developed and offered to dental practitioners and other stakeholders on the premises of Georgian partner HEIs; three viral campaigns will be held in Tbilisi, Imereti, and Adjara to raise awareness among patients with disabilities and their caregivers on the accessibility of oral healthcare services.
