Upskilling local public actors for e-bus transition

Description

<< Background >>The project came from the realisation that successful e-bus deployment requires skilled decision-makers and operators, not just the electronic buses. Deployment of e-bus fleets for local public transport is a relatively new phenomenon in a range of EU countries, in particular in those located in the Eastern and Southern parts of Europe. Target groups lack practical, field knowledge and face challenges in public procurement, digital solutions, and optimal operations. The EU Green Deal and Smart Mobility Strategy stimulate the demand for zero emission vehicles, therefore e-buses are key. In the same time, no existing Erasmus+ project focused specifically on e-bus-related VET. Skilled-eBus fills this gap by providing structured, practice-oriented knowledge and recommendations tailored to local needs, thereby fostering a smooth and impactful green transition.<< Objectives >>The project aimed to promote sustainable, low-emission urban transport through VET-based upskilling of local actors involved in e-bus transition. General objectives include raising political and professional awareness of e-bus systems. Specific goals were:•Supporting public transport decision-makers in e-bus adoption and implementation.•Enabling transport operators and staff to deploy and run e-bus fleets effectively.•Integrating e-bus operation and maintenance knowledge into (C-)VET programs.•Engaging policymakers and citizens in the transition process. These goals support climate action, professional capacity building, and policy innovation for a greener transport sector<< Implementation >>The project was structured into six key activities:1.Project management: day-to-day coordination, administrative procedures, conflict resolutionand change management.2.e-Booklet (Upskilling for e-bus decision-making & implementation): Showcasing successful e-bus implementation cases for decision-makers.3.e-Repository (Upskilling for e-bus technical deployment & operation): Collecting best practices on technical deployment and operations.4.VET recommendations (Extending existing courses and curricula with e-bus transition and operation skills): Advising on curriculum integration of e-bus skills.5.Policy guide (Guiding policymakers and public authorities to raise awareness and communicate decisions regarding the transition to e-buses): Helping public authorities communicate e-bus strategies internally and externally.6.Dissemination: Using partners websites, external websites and social media, platforms like EPALE and Erasmus+ Results to spread outputs. Each activity had clear roles for the two partners—STRIA and EOLAS—ensuring effective collaboration and regional relevance<< Results >>The Skilled-eBus-Transition project delivered four key tangible outputs:1.An e-booklet presenting case studies of successful e-bus transitions for decision-makers.2.A comprehensive e-repository with 17 good practices in e-bus deployment and operations.3.Recommendations for VET institutions on integrating e-bus-related content into existing curricula.4.A Policy Guide to help public authorities effectively communicate and manage e-bus transitions. These were complemented by a project website (https://skills4ebus.eu/), dissemination strategy, and partners social media presence, ensuring accessibility and transferability of results across Hungary, Spain, and beyond. Outputs are available in English, Hungarian, and Spanish for broader reach and sustainability. All 4 outputs were presented to the direct and indirect target groups in Hungary and Spain.Supporting documents uploaded onto FTP!
