Description

"""Science across Europe"" is the title of this two year school partnership with participants from secondary schools from Poland, Norway, Spain and Germany. The main focus is to engage young people in the important work of finding sustainable ways to produce energy. The very different climates and geography of the four participating countries will open the eyes of the students in relation to finding resources of energy.The background for the project is the climate changes that we face and the need for focus on existing methods in creating sustainable energy and the need to develop new methods.Our objectives are that 21 pupils from each school during a period off two years will get to travel to the other schools, 7 pupils to each of the other three schools. We have selected topics that shall help the students, on the one hand, to understand the importance of using sustainable energy and, on the other hand, to have an easier process of transition from school to their later life. We want to give them the necessary skills and requisite knowhow to be well-prepared and get along in the European world of work.During the meetings work is organized in multinational groups. The language of communication is English, so that each activity contributes to the improvement of language skills. The students will experience different forms of learning such as doing research, listen to lectures, discussions, organize and take responsibility for themselves and learn to be a good team player.The results and impact envisaged is a greater interest in science in general in all four schools, as this project will function as a ""flagship"" and generate a lot of interest and publicity. Both at the schools and in the local media. We also think that more girls will get interested in science. The potential long-term benefits are both a stronger interest in science among the students, but also a stronger interest in sustainable solutions for the harvest and use of energy. Another positive long-term effect is the friendships and connections that emerge between the students. Who knows; in the future they might work together on solving climate challenges? As the countries have different natural resources the students will be taught about different forms of sustainable energy:- Solar energy in Spain- Biomass and biofuel in Poland- Hydropower in Norway- Wind power in GermanyEach exchange will consist of both theoretical knowledge, visits to state of the art facilities and hands-on practise. For example by building a vehicle that runs on solar energy. Or being transported locally in an electric bus.The lessons learned from the project will be collected in a booklet that will be distributed to all teachers in the four schools and everybody else who is interested in teaching about sustainable energy."
