
The MRSEI-MAGNETO proposal aims to help set up a European ICT-06-2019 project entitled "Unconventional Nanoelectronics", whose deadline for submission is March 28, 2019. With the funding proposed by the MRSEI, we wish to take action on several factors that will enhance coordination helping to ensure the success of the proposed European project. The sum allocated will finance two consortium meetings with the entire partnership, and participation of MAGNETO's scientific managers in the ICT Proposers' Day to be held in Vienna in December 2018. Our consortium will bring together high-level multidisciplinary experts from both industry (2-3) and academia (6, including one of the most important European partners for technology transfer). Our project aims to develop new viable component approaches for information processing and transfer that combine both high performance and energy efficiency based on the properties of spin waves (magnons) that can be excited, detected and manipulated using electrical control. Beyond the scientific quality, the high level of expertise within the partnership and the ambition of the ICT project both in terms of expected results and methodology to be pursed, provides the ideal platform to respond to every aspect to the ICT-06-2019 call. We will ensure that the proposal is in line with European calls already financed by the European Commission. Nanoelectronics are a major challenge for Europe. While the worldwide market continues to prosper, the European Union electronics industry is facing a drastic decrease in its growth. It is clear that maintaining and strengthening European position in micro and nanoelectronic components and systems can only be achieved by developing new technologies that break with conventional nanoelectronics. In this context, we aim to transform the most promising concepts proposed by Magnonics (research field resulting from the combination of spin waves and nanomagnetism) into real products. A fundamental point is that spin waves exist in a wide range of frequencies (GHz-THz) and wavelengths (µm-nm) that are directly appropriate for modern ICT devices and inherently possess the non-linearity that is essential for the implementation of most functional operations. The active participation of non-academic partners, the involvement of a partner specialized in technology transfer (profiles below), will enable us to satisfy our ambition: to offer many scientific and technical spin-offs, to strengthen innovation capacity in Europe and scientific positioning, and to guarantee a viable manufacturing capacity in Europe.
