Abstract

[ES] El que aproximadamente un 8% de la población mundial sea daltónica, parece un porcentaje demasiado elevado como para considerar el daltonismo como un defecto genético. En realidad, esta diferencia genética, que conlleva el “problema” de tener una peor visión, o una visión diferente del espectro de colores; ha de tener, sin duda, algún tipo de compensación y reportar algún tipo de beneficio o ventaja a los individuos que la presentan. De otra forma, el porcentaje de daltónicos debiera ser mucho menor, al igual que sucede con todas las anomalías genéticas que no conllevan beneficios. Estas posibles ventajas compensatorias, o las implicaciones que el daltonismo pueda tener en los individuos que lo padecen, apenas han sido objeto de estudio. Los pocos trabajos que hay al respecto aluden a la posibilidad de que los daltónicos sean capaces de distinguir mejor el camuflaje; lo que, en principio, tampoco parece una compensación muy obvia. En este artículo se apuntan algunas hipótesis (no comprobadas) que podrían explicar donde radica ese efecto de compensación y las posibles ventajas evolutivas que el daltonismo pudiera aportar a los individuos que lo presentan.
