Abstract

[EN] All species studied were contaminated by low residue levels of HCH (a, y), heptachlor, aldrin, dieldrid, p,p'-DDT, o,p-DDT, p,p'-TDE, p,pf-DDE, and PCBs as well. The highest insecticide levels were found in the DDT group and the lowest in the cyclodienic group (heptachlor, aldrin, dieldrin), but the PCB levels were higher than the sum of all insecticide residues detected in most of the species analyzed. As an example for only three representativ species of all species sampled, sardine (Sardina pilchardus), dogfish (Centrophorus lussitanicus), and shrimp (Leander serratus), the mean levels found were as follows: HCH [a, y] 0.012, 0.295, 0.026 ppm; cyclodienics 0.004, nd, 0.004 ppm; DDT total 0.285, 2.052, 0.061 ppm; PCBs 0.533, 2.564, 0.266 ppm respectively (ppm on the weight of the whole body of fresh fish). The range of levels found were always under those levels considered as hazardous for marine wildlife, and also the maximum of residues in specimens used in human food were tolerant with the acceptable intake established for man. In one year of interval between samplings an increasing of all residue levels was observed in the area which was quantified in 1.6 and 3.66 times for sardine and clam respectively. [...] Gryphaea angulata, Donax trunculus, Tapes decussatus, Solen sp., Engraulis encrasicholus, Aphia minuta, Cytherea chione, Venus gallina, Parapenaeus longirrostris, Sepiola rondeleti, Illex illecerebrosus, Cassidaria tyrrena, Centrophorus lussitanicus, Atherina sp., Loligo sp.
