Los tres dominios biológicos representados por los tres grupos primarios de organismos, arqueas, bacterias y eucariontes; viven plácidamente en los ambientes lacustres extremos del desierto de Los Monegros (Aragón). Una investigación del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) ha analizado la abundancia y diversidad de dichos microrganismos en la región. El trabajo, que han sido publicado en el último número de la revista FEMS Microbiology Ecology, revela que el volumen de una cucharita de café puede albergar hasta 10 millones de ellos.
