Abstract

En la Estación Experimental de Aula Dei, perteneciente al Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, estudiamos los factores que limitan la fijación de nitrógeno por la simbiosis rizobioleguminosa. Sabemos que diversos tipos de estrés abiótico (como la sequía y la salinidad) o biótico (como el ataque por bacterias y hongos patógenos) reducen la fijación de nitrógeno, y que unas moléculas, denominadas radica les libres, pueden ser una de las causas de dicha limitación, al provocar el envejecimiento prematuro de los nódulos. El trabajo del grupo de Fijación de Nitrógeno y Estrés Oxidativo en Leguminosas se ha centrado en determinar las causas del estrés oxidativo. En colaboración con otros expertos nacionales e internacionales, estamos investigando algunos antioxidantes de gran importancia, como las hemoglobinas o las peroxidasas, relacionados con el envejecimiento o con el estrés causado por factores ambientales adversos. Los objetivos son conocer los mecanismos de la respuesta de las leguminosas a los factores ambientales, aumentar la tolerancia de las plantas a situaciones de estrés y potenciar la fijación simbiótica de nitrógeno.

Obtienen la financiación a través del proyecto de la Unión Europea y de los proyectos del Plan Nacional de I+D+i (subprograma de Agricultura).
