The determination of the angle is made by analysing the shape of a drop of a liquid hanging from the tip of a needle/tube. The image of the droplet is obtained with a video camera connected to a computer. The software processes and calibrates the images in order to determine the coordinates of the droplet profile in contact with the surface. The measurement range of this angle is 0º-180º with an accuracy of +/- 0.01º.
Contact angle measurement is a useful and non-destructive tool that is related to wettability, surface hydrophobicity and the ability of substances or compounds to adhere to surfaces.
