[EN] The latest IPCC report on Climate Change makes it clear that reducing greenhouse gas emissions is not sufficient on its own to limit global warming and considers it vital to take large-scale measures to eliminate CO2 (EDC) already emitted. to the atmosphere. In Spain, responsible for 9% of Europe's CO2 emissions, the forestry and agricultural sectors have set a target of removing around 1 million tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere by 2030. However, additional EDC methods should be explored to comply with the Paris Agreement. A recent study highlights the untapped potential in Spain of the country's mineral resources and industrial by-products for EDC through a novel nature-based solution called enhanced weathering. Enhanced weathering has the potential to carry out large-scale EDC in Spain and other territories. However, it is still an underdeveloped technology and a series of scientific and technical challenges must be addressed to be able to implement it effectively.
