Abstract

[EN] In this report, we present the results of the archaeological excavations and survey undertaken at the concentration camp of Castuera (Badajoz, Spain) in September 2010. The camp was established immediately after the end of the Spanish Civil War, in April 1939, and it remained in operation for around a year. It is one of the few camps established ex novo by the Franco regime (instead of reusing previous structures). During the 2010 field season, test pits were conducted in the latrines and the perimeter ditches, which provided relevant data on the conditions of life in the camp and on its structure and organization. Much older remains were also discovered during the survey, belonging to the Iron Age and the Germanic period (6th-7th c. AD).
