Abstract

La comunicación animal es un tema fascinante y extremadamente complejo, ya que las especies pueden llegar a utilizar múltiples formas de comunicación para transmitir distintas informaciones a sus congéneres. A pesar de que el estudio de la comunicación animal ha sido y sigue siendo uno de los campos de investigación más prolíferos, aún queda mucho por descubrir. En el caso de la comunicación en especies de mamíferos terrestres, la mayor parte de las investigaciones se han centrado en la comunicación a través de señales químicas (heces, orina y glándulas corporales) y acústicas (como los aullidos). Sin embargo, se han obviado otras formas de comunicación, como el uso de señales visuales, que podrían ser igual de importantes. De hecho, hay varias razones para pensar que la comunicación visual en mamíferos podría ser utilizada de forma más frecuente de lo que hasta ahora se había supuesto.
