The “Platuxa 2006” bottom trawl survey is the research twelfth research survey in the series began in 1995, aimed to obtain abundance indices and know the structure of populations of commercial species in the of NAFO Regulatory Area, Divisions 3N and 3O. This survey is the sixth developed with R/V “Vizconde Eza”. There were made 120 hauls valid in a depth range of 46 to 1480 m. Survey results indicate an increase in the catches of several commercially important demersal species: American plaice (Hippoglossoides platessoides), cod (Gadus morhua) and Thorny skate (Amplyraja radiata) and to a lesser extent, for yellowtail flounder (Limanda ferruginea). In the whole series, dab is in strong recovery, increasing slightly the values of their capture and their estimated biomass. The catch of American plaice clearly increased, while maintaining a level below its historical average. They found a significant increase in catches of cod. Decreased catches of redfish (Sebastes spp), White hake (Urophycis tenuis), just under the Greenland halibut (Reinhardtius hippoglossoides). The Greenland halibut remains at a very low level, falling. Shrimp (Pandalus boreales) catches declined for the second consecutive year.
