Abstract

[EN] This paper brings the experience attained during 1985 to 1990 in the adaptation and development of the deep trawl fishing (below a depth of 1000m) with a single warp. The activities were conducted in the Catalan Sea (Western Mediterranean) and Cantabric Sea (Noertheastern Atlantic), where no previous fishing had been done. The approach consisted in slightly modifications of an OTSB 14 trawl gear, to the proper operation in those areas and ship availability, a research vessel with a stern main deck and a winch with 6000 m of single wire. At present, the operations on board have been positively simplified and completely routinized. 88 fishing operations have been accomplished. 77 of them ranging from 1000 to 2266 m depth; the rest were considered as experimental in shallower water or for fishing parameters comparison. As for the local trawlers the 1000 m isobath is an unsurmountable barrier, te present gear and on board operativity can be considered an approach to fish at greater depths with minor technological on board improvements, trying to capture alternative resources
