De la "España ultramarina" a la "España africana". Sobre la singularidad del Imperio español en el siglo XIX

Abstract

En los últimos años ha tenido lugar un aumento espectacular de la historiografía sobre imperio e imperialismo en el ámbito internacional y, más moderadamente, en España. No obstante, este “giro imperial” no ha cambiado algunas constantes interpretativas que se vienen repitiendo desde hace décadas en el análisis histórico del imperio español. Quizás una de las más relevantes sea la persistente desconexión entre la prolongada experiencia colonial hispana en América y Filipinas hasta finales del siglo XIX y la más breve que tuvo por escenario el noroeste de África desde mediados de ese mismo siglo. Este trabajo pretende ofrecer algunas propuestas para terminar con dicha desconexión.

20 páginas. Trabajo elaborado a partir de una presentación en el coloquio internacional "Regenerar España y Marruecos. Confluencias educativas, médicas y científicas hispano-marroquíes a finales del siglo XIX", celebrado en el CCHS-CSIC de Madrid en noviembre de 2009.
