La fuerza social del Patrimonio Cultural

Abstract

[EN] Spanish version of the pre-print edited in galician languaje accesible in the following link: http://hdl.handle.net/10261/28592. In August 2005, at the time when the coalition took over the Regional Government of Galicia, the magazine Tempos Novos asked a number of authors and specialists to provide specific contributions on what could and should be expected from the new government (based on an alliance between the Socialist Party and the nationalist Bloque Nacionalista Galego) in different fields of science and culture in Galicia. This text contains the contribution that was requested from Felipe Criado Boado on cultural heritage and heritage policy. It explores some of the main challenges facing the promising area of heritage management and administration in Galicia, not only characterised by important projects that are already underway (the City of Culture and the Galician Archaeological Heritage Network), but also the opportunity to modernise the relationship with heritage assets in order to optimise critical knowledge of heritage, to reinforce its value as a cultural resource, and to contribute towards the establishment of innovative socio-economic projects. The heritage management carried out by the Bloque from the Regional Ministry of Culture, and in particular by Felipe Arias Vilas as Director-General for Heritage, did not precisely make progress in this regard.
