Visión de las rapaces diurnas y el color de las aves

Abstract

Se ha dicho que un ave es un ala guiada por un ojo. Esta afirmación es quizá una simplificación pero lo cierto es que salvo contadas excepciones la visión es la modalidad sensorial más desarrollada en este grupo de animales. Este desarrollo se considera máximo en las rapaces que se estima que en algunos casos alcanzan una agudeza visual tres veces superior a la del ser humano. Además la presencia de un cuarto pigmento visual dota a las aves de la capacidad para percibir una gama más amplia de colores que la percibida por los seres humanos.
