Las investigaciones dentro de la Historia de la Ciencia han puesto de manifiesto que las mujeres han contribuido al desarrollo de la Geología desde el siglo XII. Las primeras mujeres que hicieron aportaciones a la Geología estaban fuera de los ámbitos académicos, y su legado ha sido poco conocido hasta que el estudio de la Historia de la Ciencia se ha realizado desde la perspectiva de género. Repaso, desde la perspectiva actual, sus vidas y su relación con el trabajo que desarrollaron en las diferentes ramas de la Geología.
