Cómo podemos ayudar a las aves a resistir el cambio climático

Abstract

Las aves que observamos más a menudo hoy en día podrían ser diferentes de las que veamos dentro de unas pocas décadas. El clima está cambiando, y se prevé que continúe haciéndolo en el futuro. Algunas especies tendrán que desplazarse si quieren seguir disfrutando del mismo clima que en la actualidad. Pero las zonas que tendrán unas condiciones idóneas podrían no disponer de su hábitat preferido, empujándolas a una difícil decisión. Además, algunas se enfrentan a otras amenazas como la intensificación agraria, la contaminación por pesticidas, el abandono de los usos tradicionales del suelo o el desarrollo de campos eólicos. Estas amenazas podrían sumarse a la del clima, poniéndolas en aprietos. Afortunadamente, existen herramientas como los espacios protegidos que pueden ayudar a amortiguar estos impactos. Así, el cambio climático, la disponibilidad de hábitat y la protección frente a otras amenazas podrían determinar cuáles serán las aves más comunes en el futuro. También dónde las encontraremos.
