La Masa Valverde: pasado, presente y futuro

Abstract

The present work tries on the one hand the enhancement of the survey campaign carried out in the mid-eighties of the last century by the ADARO National Company and the Peñarroya Society that discovered the famous sulfide deposit known as "Masa Valverde". Said campaign is kept in the Litoteca of the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain (IGME) located in Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo (Córdoba). The original reports of all the witnesses extracted from surveys conducted for research and geochemical exploration, carried out by ADARO, that cut the sulfide mass have been studied. A three-dimensional simulation of the terrain and subsoil has been carried out with the SketchUp graphic design software. In this way, the volume of mineral located under the earth's surface is represented, allowing a definition of the site that is quite close to the reality, which will allow to elucidate in the future the possibility of exploitation based on existing mining technology. The second objective of this project was the validation of the use and the procedure for measuring the concentrations of the different chemical elements present, in some of the previously mentioned witnesses, with a portable X-ray fluorescence (FRX) analyzer model Vanta of the company Olympus and owned by IGME. The results obtained with the fluorescence equipment, after different measurements in each drilling fraction, have been compared with the results obtained by the ADARO company. The results have been very satisfactory, observing a good agreement. Therefore, the portable fluorescence equipment used is very useful for two reasons, the first is the speed of the measurement and the second and very important is its non-destructive nature. This last reason will make it possible to keep the witnesses stored in the IGME´s Litoteca without altering for successive measurements.
