El reciente trabajo de un equipo de ornitólogos canarios ha revelado la extraordinaria importancia de las islas para la avifauna marina. Una lbor de meses recorriendo pacientemente noche y día roques e islotes siempre que el mar lo permitía, ha aportado el descubrimiento de especies nidificantes nuevas y de poblaciones de magnitud insospechada de otras. Las Canarias, ya ricas en endemismos, habitats singulares o especies amenazadas, reclaman una vez más, ahora en razón de sus aves marinas, la atención prioritaria y el esfuerzo conservacionista de la Administración y los ornitólogos.
