Aplicaciones de la electroquímica para el estudio y conservación del patrimonio cultural metálico

Abstract

El patrimonio cultural metálico está sometido a diversos procesos de degradación que amenazan su conservación. Entre ellos, el más ubicuo y constante es, seguramente, la corrosión; es decir, la reacción de los metales con el medio ambiente en que se encuentran. Para el estudio científico de la corrosión, las técnicas electroquímicas son una herramienta fundamental y consolidada, pues nos informan sobre cinéticas y mecanismos de los procesos que ocurren. Sin embargo, su aplicación específica en bienes culturales metálicos está mucho menos extendida, debido a las especiales características de estos bienes. En el grupo de investigación COPAC del CENIM venimos trabajando en esta línea desde hace varios años, y en esta charla se presentarán algunos ejemplos de las problemáticas abordadas y desarrollos realizados en la aplicación de diversas técnicas electroquímicas al estudio y conservación del patrimonio metálico.
