BCN Gulls, el gavià argentat a Barcelona

Abstract

És un dels ocells de major mida dels que viuen en llibertat a Barcelona. Habiten a la ciutat amb nosaltres i sovint es deixen sentir amb els seus crits. Es troba amb major abundància al front marí però això no treu que també visquin en qualsevol altra zona de l’entramat urbà. És el gavià argentat o de potes grogues, una espècie que forma part de la nostra biodiversitat urbana i que és objecte d’estudi del projecte de recerca Bcn Gulls amb l’objectiu de conèixer de quina manera aquest animal podria afectar la salut de les persones. El projecte reuneix a professionals de la recerca dels àmbits de la zoologia, l’ecologia i la microbiolgia per tal d’estudiar de quina manera el gavià argentat (Larus michaelis) podria transmetre malalties en les persones. Aquesta espècie és portadora de bacteris que poden ser perjudicials per l’ésser humà. Per això i al tractar-se d’un ocell molt comú a la ciutat que comparteix espai amb nosaltres, el gavià argentat figura dins dels programes de vigilància de plagues d’ocells a Barcelona. En aquest marc, el projecte té com a finalitat entendre millor quin és l’impacte del gavià argentat en la salut pública per tal de poder orientar millor la gestió de les seves poblacions i la prevenció de malalties. Per extreure les seves conclusions, els investigadors i les investigadores del projecte estudien els patrons de moviment de les aus, com utilitzen l’hàbitat urbà i es dispersen en l’espai. Això ho realitzen amb la tecnologia GPS, que permet el seu seguiment i determinar la seva ubicació. Així mateix, l’estudi també inclou anàlisis microbiològiques, de comportament i altres aspectes que en conjunt permeten acotar quin és el seu impacte en la salut dels ciutadans i les ciutadanes
