Abstract

La costa catalana se extiende desde Cabo de Creus hasta un poco más al sur del Delta del Ebro, con una longitud aproximada de 575 Km. La plataforma continental asociada es relativamente amplia en la zona sur (provincia de Tarragona) y estrecha en la zona intermedia y norte (respectivamente, provincias de Barcelona y Gerona). La producción biológica de esta fracción del Mediterráneo Occidental sigue las pautas generales de este mar, es decir tasas de asimiliación y transferencia de energía bajas, respecto de mareas próximas como el Océano Atlántico.
