Abstract

Con ocasión de un supuesto, y a todas luces inverosímil, 60 cumpleaños del Profesor Vicente Fernández Herrero he querido comentar aquí, muy brevemente, algunos hechos que creo que serán de su interés, todos ellos relacionados con zeolitas que poseen una red puramente silícea. Es, en parte, culpa de Vicente el que yo me haya dedicado a las zeolitas, pues me puso en contacto con Joaquín Pérez Pariente, que terminó dirigiendo mi tesis (a Joaquín le echaremos el resto de la culpa). Cuando las zeolitas SiO2 se preparan por la “ruta del fluoruro”, el material antes de calcinar contiene aniones F- encapsulado en pequeñas cavidades específicas de la red silícea (y cationes orgánicos u organometálicos en otras cavidades mayores). Dependiendo del material, el F- puede interaccionar fuertemente con un silicio concreto, dando lugar a especies pentacoordinadas [SiO4/2F]- con geometría de bipirámide trigonal distorsionada, o bien puede interaccionar con varios átomos de Si, produciéndose un intercambio de F y una transformación entre especies de Si tetra y pentacoordinadas, o puede, por último, estar tan alejado de cualquier Si que sólo se observe Si tetracoordinado. En general, es posible eliminar el fluoruro y sus contracationes para obtener SiO2 con una estructura cristalina microporosa.
