Ácido oleanólico para el tratamiento de la esclerosis múltiple

Abstract

Utilización de un triterpeno pentacíclico para la preparación deuna composición farmacéutica destinada al tratamiento de la esclerosis múltiple. El ácido oleanólico (ácido 3ß-hidroxiolean-12-en-28-oico) es un ácido triterpénico pentacíclico presente en un amplio número de plantas medicinales. El objeto de la invención es la aplicación farmacológica del ácido oleanólico solo o en combinación con otras sustancias en la terapéutica o profilaxis de enfermedades neurodegenerativas tales como la esclerosis múltiple. Losinventores han encontrado que el ácido oleanólico administrado diariamente por vía intraperitoneal reduce significativamente lossíntomas neurológicos e inmuno- inflamatorios asociados a la encefalomielitis autoinmune experimental, un modelo experimental de la esclerosis múltiple, retardando el inicio y reduciendo el progreso de la enfermedad.
