La retina o cómo interpretar la luz.

Abstract

El mundo cambia a nuestro alrededor, un instante es distinto al siguiente y tenemos que ser capaces de adaptarnos y responder adecuadamente. La visión es, para la mayoría de los animales, uno de los sentidos más importantes, ya que les permite esta interacción con el medio ambiente en busca de comida o predadores. Los humanos no somos distintos. Muchos consideran que la visión es nuestro principal sentido, el que nos hace animales sociales, permitiéndonos reconocer las expresiones faciales y adivinar las intenciones de otras personas. Visión y empatía van fuertemente unidas. El primer paso para ver es detectar la luz y este proceso ocurre en la retina. En esta charla descubriremos su origen y evolución, su fisiología y cómo es capaz de transformar las características de la luz en formas, colores y movimiento para que finalmente el cerebro pueda interpretar lo que está pasando a nuestro alrededor.
