Los mapas de suelos y su utilidad desde el punto de vista agrícola

Abstract

Es un hecho bien conocido de todos los agricultores que existen grandes diferencias en cuanto a fertilidad, rendimiento para los distintos cultivos, comportamiento frente al agua (encharcamiento o drenaje fácil), respuesta al abonado, etc., entre los suelos de zonas próximas e incluso entre las distintas partes de una misma zona o finca. Estas diferencias son a veces tan claras y manifiestas, que se traducen al exterior en un aspecto muy distinto para cada suelo y en la distinta naturaleza y apariencia de la vegetación natural correspondiente. Estos hechos son bien conocidos de nuestros labradores que, instintivamente y desde un punto de vista práctico, clasifican sus suelos con arreglo a su comportamiento y destinan cada uno a aquel cultivo o aprovechamiento para el que lo creen más adecuado. Ningún agricultor hace, por ello, al azar, la distribución de sus cultivos anuales, sino que elige cuidadosamente aquel suelo o aquellas parcelas más apropiadas para cada uno. Estas diferencias han de tenerse en cuenta asimismo al efectuar la toma de muestras de suelos para su envío al laboratorio, a fin de ser analizadas, ya que, como es natural, carecería de sentido tomar una muestra única que comprendiera zonas o suelos de muy distinta naturaleza.
