Un equipo internacional liderado por el Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales (MNCN-CSIC) ha comprobado cómo la diversidad funcional de avispas parasitoides en islas no se corresponde con lo que se esperaría en función del número de especies, es decir, que haya muchas especies diferentes en una isla no significa que su forma de interactuar con el ecosistema, medida a partir de su diversidad funcional (rasgos morfológicos, desarrollo y estrategias de ataque), varíe significativamente de unas a otras. Los resultados apuntan a que son los hospedadores de dichas avispas los que actúan como filtro para dejar que se establezcan unas u otras especies.
