Un equipo internacional de investigación formado por científicos de varias instituciones, como la Universidad de Witwatersrand de Johannesburgo (Sudáfrica), la Universidad de Nueva York (EE.UU.) y el Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales (MNCN-CSIC), entre otras, publica hoy en la revista eLIFE la descripción de Homo naledi, una nueva especie de homínido cuya morfología se sitúa entre los géneros Australopithecus y Homo. Los fósiles analizados pertenecen al yacimiento Dinaledi, encontrado en la cueva Rising Star (Sudáfrica), que contiene los restos de un grupo de al menos 15 homínidos de esta especie en diferentes etapas de desarrollo.
