Abstract

El Cabo de Gata está situado en la costa sur almeriense y es una región volcánica muy extensa, formada durante el Terciario. Estamos hablando de un magmatismo en ambiente litoral, de unos 12 Millones de años de antigüedad. En la foto podemos ver DISYUNCIONES COLUMNARES: Son formaciones volcánicas surgidas por el enfriamiento lento de las coladas de lava tras la erupción. La solidificación lenta produce una disminución de su volumen lo que genera la aparición de grietas dispuestas perpendicularmente a la superficie de enfriamiento, dando lugar a columnas, que al erosionarse dan lugar a un paisaje escalonado. Su peculiar forma hace que se hayan aprovechado tradicionalmente para la obtención de adoquines. En este caso, se trata de lavas andesíticas. Para más información: Geoparque Cabo de Gata-Níjar.
