Book publishing is the largest cultural industry in Europe, and European publishing (uniquely among European cultural industries) is a world leader. Nevertheless, the industry needs to revisit its traditional value chains and business models, and to establish effective cooperation with prosumers, to reaffirm its place as a fundamental economic and cultural agent in the digital age. Möbius will contribute to a renewed and invigorated European publishing sector by providing them with methods and tools to leverage the potential of prosumers in innovation processes and thus guaranteeing user-centric and user-driven perspectives in the design and delivery of new enriched media experiences. Möbius will deliver three key innovations: i) Prosumer intelligence toolkit, built upon living labs qualitative methods and the analysis of a dataset containing several hundred thousand of prosumer online works and interactions. ii) Prosumer business models, grounded in thorough analysis of IP law, for steering a fair and sustainable ecosystem; and iii) Möbius book, allowing cross-media, interactive and immersive book experiences. Möbius will developed and validated through large scale piloting activities mobilizing 2.500 relevant user groups, including prosumers, and publishing and media professionals. These innovations will be exploited for direct use and commercialization by partners Bookabook, IN2 and MVB through a Möbius marketplace. Möbius consortium is multidisciplinary, gathering industrial, artistic, social sciences and technological expertise. Möbius will showcase results in two of the largest cultural and technological events in Europe: Frankfurt Book Fair (by MVB) and the Mobile Word Congress (by FMWC). Intense dissemination activities and rigorous impact assessment will be organized to maximize impact of the results in the publishing industry and the European media ecosystem as a whole.
The ASAP Project was addressed to design and experiment appropriate Curricula for supporting the passage from physical to digital production in the publishing sector. The first step was addressed to map the new needed skills and competences as a basis for the creation of the curricula, showing the specific challenges on:• definition of the anticipated short and medium term changes and the new trends and best practices in education and training for the Publishing Sector• implementation of a link between the skills needs/competences gaps and the learning outcomes.Taking into account the impact of the changes in the competences and skills, the following phase of the ASAP project proposed an evolutionary map of the skill needs and designed and delivered flexible training programmes (one for each area of the publishing supply chain) that, according to EQF/ECVET standards, have provided employees, but also unemployed, self-employed, low skilled employees and young VET students the opportunity to update their professional skills and knowledge covering the gap related to the lack of specific skills determined by the “digital revolution”.In particular, the programme is composed of 5 specific professional profiles of the publishing sector (Specialist in production, Specialist in Design, Editor, Specialist in Marketing and Sales, Specialist in Publicity and Communication), one for each step of the publishing supply chain (Production - Design - Editorial - Marketing and publicity - Distribution and sales). A transversal module was developed with the goal of introducing the main innovation of the publishing sector. The profiles are indeed declined in Learning Units and ECVET points are attributed. For each occupational profile the “more innovative” unit is developed into the ASAP MOOC (Massive Open Online Platform); this way the ASAP project gives also the opportunity to attain the course entirely on line. The ASAP consortium believed that workers of the publishing sector who wish to successfully transform themselves into digital skills experts must learn to leverage their existing brand and professional approach considering the new digital channels, and to reduce their traditionally heavy dependence on the traditional skills and competences. So, the idea behind the work done is to support a step-by-step transformation and to lead the learners through a path of improvement where at the beginning they would seek for a fulfilment of their specific needs and at the end they would be ready to face the labor market with updated and new acquired skills. The project promoted a wide cooperation among the different stakeholders using a participatory portal and the MOOC for making the contents at the disposal of a massive target group (it can become the first MOOC of the Publishing Sector), also after the formal end of the project. In the MOOC, each unit is composed by: •Video Lessons (mother tongue video, one for each profile) = minimum 01:00 hour • Reading Materials = at least 30 (10 for each learning outcomes)• Other Videos / Reference materials = at least 30 (at least 10 for each Learning Outcome)• Tasks = at least 12 (4 for each learning outcome)• Assessment exams = Assessment exams = at least 45 quizzes for the assessment of each Unit (for a profile 180 quizzes)All these materials are produced in original, in all partners languages and for all the 5 professional profiles.A wide piloting has been conducted with 1082 learnersFinally a Memorandum of Understanding was signed among the VET partners through which they agree to: - formalise the ECVET partnership by stating the mutual acceptance of the procedures for assessing competences coherently within the ASAP model - define the procedures under which credits, in partner systems, can be achieved and recognized - design specific arrangements for credit transfer for learners for each specific mobility period- continue the LO Units Testing.
The EfDP project will support the development of a suite of new credit-based Digital Publishing qualifications within the context of the European Qualification Framework (EQF) and related processes for European Credit Transfer for Vocational Education and Training (ECVET). The project will respond to the demand for digital skills within the publishing industry and related sectors by developing course curricula for a suite of new ECVET based Digital Publishing qualifications focusing on 5 key areas:(1) Content – Creating, sourcing and collating content for Digital Publishing, as well as editing and curation for online content and examining legal issues associated with intellectual copyright and clearing rights within Europe and internationally.(2) Production – Skills and knowledge for digital production processes that develop content into digital products, such as: e-books and audio books; digital magazines; blogs; and e-learning materials(3) Design - Analysis and justification of different design approaches; awareness of software options for creating digital assets; designing for instant impact, and online optimisation.(4) Distribution – Awareness of the channels and platforms available for delivery of digital content and assessment of options for different digital products and audience targeting and engagement.(5) Business Models – Understanding of the impact of digitisation on mainstream publishing, as well as developing knowledge of alternative and emerging business models that facilitate monetisation of digital content, including advertising and subscription-based models and multiplatform returns on intellectual property.Following ECVET principles and processes, the EfDP project will work with VET Partners in 5 EU countries (Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and the UK), as well as the Federation of European Publishers who will act as an industry-focused ‘Expert Partner’ to develop ECVET based Digital Publishing VET qualifications that will enable learners to start training towards their target qualification with a training provider in one EU country and then, whilst part way through, transfer the credits gained to date to another training provider in a different EU country to complete the course.TARGET GROUPSThe primary target groups are:VET institutions historically or currently offering courses tailored to the traditional publishing sector, but especially those interested in:a) developing qualifications based on skills appropriate to the transition to digital within traditional publishing and/orb) wishing to offer VET provision related to the spectrum of skills relevant to ‘stand-alone’ digital publishing.- VET learners interested in pursuing a career in publishing, primarily young people aged 19-24 facing economic and educational obstacles to labour market integration in their chosen field- EU VET Support and the corresponding National, Regional and Sectoral Qualifications Frameworks in the partner countriesIn total 312 people will directly benefit from participating in the EfDM project including 15 project staff, 7 VET practitioners taking part in teaching and training activities, 50 VET students accessing pilot courses and 240 people taking part in Multiplier Events. Dissemination functions will also engage significant additional numbers of Digital Media employers, VET organisations, practitioners and learners.METHODOLOGYThe project will incorporate a comprehensive ECVET approach, based on adapting the units, learning aims and assessment criteria that comprise the qualification for use in the partner countries. The project partners will engage with EU VET Support and the corresponding National, Regional and Sectoral Qualifications Frameworks in the participating Member States (to the extent where they are already in place at national level) to facilitate recognition of the qualification in the partner countries and thus support work towards full credit transferability.IMPACTThe EfDP project will support 50 learners to engage in studying new ECVET- based Digital Publishing qualifications and a minimum of 45 learners will achieve their target qualification and we anticipate that a minimum of 30 will progress into sustainable employment within the publishing sector.Tutors taking part in teaching and training activities will develop new, European perspectives for the Digital Publishing sector and integrate these within both the courses they teach and their own professional development. Finally, the project partners will also reflect upon the process of adapting the qualification for use in other EU countries and the integration of an ECVET approach to produce a guide for further adaptation that will support wider use of the new Digital Publishing qualifications that the EfDP project will create – including in other EU countries and beyond the lifetime of the Erasmus+ funding.
