
Periodic inspection of the integrity of welds is essential for maintaining safe and efficient operation of critical assets. Methods based on ultrasound have numerous advantages – they are fast, accessible and non-disruptive – but they meet serious obstacles when used on thick welds with a complex microstructure. The H2020 ADVISE project developed and demonstrated techniques to address these challenges in the nuclear energy context. For most of these, the knowledge of the internal material structure of the weld is essential. Building up foundations laid by ADVISE, iWeld aims to progress towards implementing the imaging and characterisation methods in-situ and broaden their application scope beyond the nuclear energy sector. The project will combine insights from a wide spectrum of industries to construct a comprehensive weld library which will be used to train an AI model predicting the internal material structure of the weld. These predictions will be used in further refined inversion and imaging algorithms to deliver a comprehensive inspection planning workflow. The ambition of iWeld is to transform the way to perform ultrasonic inspection on complex welds across several branches of industry and to deliver open tools to support their development.
FASTNet belongs to working area WA5, addressing topic WA5.1 Fast-track innovation and uptake for capacity on demand and dynamic airspace and focusing on future data services and applications for airport and network. FASTNet proposes solutions that contribute to the evolution of ATM aviation into an integrated digital ecosystem characterised by distributed data services. This project aims at further enhancing the airports and network integration in tactical, pre-tactical and strategic planning through the development of the following two solutions: - Solution 1: Enhanced AOPs-NOP Tactical planning, with the inclusion of an “airport-to-airport(s)" AOP to AOP collaborative planning process and the use of artificial intelligence. The solution aims to extend the consolidated Demand and Capacity Balancing (DCB) process amongst airports and NM. In this context, it will include an “airport-to-airport(s)” collaborative planning process, prior to the “airport-to-network” process, for performance benefits of all connected airports and the network, such as improved punctuality, optimized use of ground and airspace capacity, thus leading to higher network efficiency. - Solution 2: AOP-NOP Strategic and pre-tactical planning. This solution aims to extend the timeframe of the AOP-NOP integration, focusing on the strategic (from months in advance until D-7) and pre-tactical (D-7; D-1) planning phases to ensure a smooth transition towards tactical phase with reduced adjustments. Both Solutions 1 and 2 involve the extension of state-of-the-art technologies to integrate new datasets available at local level, such as local restrictions, pre-tactical flight information and strategic local information in order to enrich DCB information and ensure efficient planning from the strategic phase.
The E-SHAPE proposal is driven by the need to develop operational EO services with and for the users and to create a conducive environment whereby the strengths of Europe are exploited towards addressing societal challenges, fostering entrepreneurship and supporting sustainable development. The proposal objectives are 1) to develop operational EO services with and for users active in key societal sectors; 2) to demonstrate the benefits of the EO pilots through the coordinated downstream exploitation of EO data and the utilization of existing EO resources; 3) to promote the uptake of pilots at national and international scale, across vertical markets (private and public) and amongst key user communities; 4) to enable the long-term sustainability of the numerous pilots, their penetration in public and private markets and support their upscaling; 5) to increase uptake by raising awareness on the solutions developed through tailored and well-targeted communication, dissemination and outreach activities. The proposal aims at setting-up and promoting a sustainable organization dedicated to users’ uptake of European EO resources, building on Copernicus and GEOSS through the development of co-design pilots (i.e. application-oriented products, services or solutions) built on a user-centric approach and delivering economic, social and policy value to European citizens. It has also the ambition through the development of 27 pilots organized in 7 showcases to deliver information that will also contribute to the three GEO engagements (SDGs, Paris Agreement and Sendai Framework).
