Despite the beauty of its landscape, Vietnam is environmentally fragile, being the sixth worldwide most affected country by natural disasters and other weather-related losses. This trend is expected to be exacerbated by climate change-induced effects the society will have to face and adapt to. Meanwhile, Vietnam is experiencing impressive economic growth which, unfortunately, will have only temporary advantages, if not conjugated with social and environmental sustainability. The protection of natural resources and the increase of resilience strategies combined with social equitable development and civic participation is vital for the country. The global availability of new big geospatial data and services (e.g., Copernicus), most of them open and free of charge, and new methods and open-source tools, increases the capacity of sensing and monitoring the status of the environment and bring to the creation of Digital Twins enabling revisiting the past, understanding the present, and predicting the future of Vietnam. Being able to meet previous challenges, with the newly available opportunities, requires the strengthening of national skills, including educational possibilities, for several stakeholders to achieve higher degrees of knowledge in Earth Observation and in models/technologies enabling Digital Geospatial Twins. The project consists of designing, implementing, and blending teaching of 4 new innovative courses, training of trainers in HEIs of Vietnam, development of required digital infrastructure for Vietnamese HEIs, and dissemination of the results to wider society and stakeholders. The courses will be exploited in existing programs of Vietnam partner universities and within 5 years 300 students will study them. Besides the general indirect benefit of the whole society, including vulnerable groups, there will be a direct benefit for the HEIs (staff and students) and the associate partners (authorities and companies involved in environmental issue).

The number of specialists in resource geology in Russia and Vietnam is decreasing, their qualifications are no longer meeting demands of the labour market, which reduces national companies’ competitiveness against international ones. As the resource exploration management methodologies and technologies are changing the education curricula needs to be updated. Education systems in Partner Countries are dependent on their government where decisions are taken slowly. The best way to tackle the education modernization there is through educators and managers of the education systems. European Universities as TU Bergakademie Freiberg, Montanuniversitaet Leoben and University of Turin, recognized for their focus on geology and resources, will help partners from Russia and Vietnam to modernize their education, update curriculum and create international Master program in Geology focussed on resources providing courses in English. The capacity of lecturers of Partner Universities will be built, the curriculum considering the interests of the target groups prepared, laboratories equipped, eLearning platform for interactivity and material accessibility created, after which the teaching will start. To engage students, attract the brain drain and raise awareness winter schools “Young Geologist” will be organized in campuses in English and in Russian or Vietnamese using traditional, video and online lecturing. Having all materials online (for Master program and for winter school) the effect is expected to propagate nationally and internationally. Program will be prepared as a Double Degree with Bologna recommendations to ensure the course compatibility with EU. This will uplift Universities to an international level assuring institution internationalization and networking, increased student and staff mobility. The successful implementation will disseminate the effects for other departments and institutions through various activities organized by educators.

Current priority of world energy industry is designing of Smart Energy Systems (SES) which contributes to deployment of an interdisciplinary approach integrating achievements of energy technologies and IT. Along with the technologies development, energy sector requires specialists able to meet the challenges and capable to conceive, develop and implement innovative solutions under diverse conditions. In order to satisfy the needs of Russian and Vietnamese energy sectors in engineers of new format, the project ESSENCE “Establishing smart energy system curriculum in Russian and Vietnamese universities” will be realised by the consortium consisting of 3 EU, 5 RU and 2 VN universities aimed at modernisation of existing master degree programmes in the field of electrical engineering in a way to meet the requirements and expectations of main stakeholders of the programme, in accordance with Bologna requirements and European Qualification Framework and in close cooperation with industry. The project will achieve the following results: modernised degree programmes will be implemented at RU and VN universities, peer-reviewed teaching and learning materials including guide on industry involvement in 3 languages (EN, RU and VN) will be developed and uploaded to project web-site for free use; partner university teachers, representatives of RU and VN HEIs will be trained in advanced teaching methodologies; partner university teachers will enhance their skills in curriculum development and subject area; contacts with industrial enterprises in RU and VN will be established for their deeper involvement into educational process and enhanced job placement of programme graduates; agreements on academic mobility between CM will be signed. The project will benefit multiple target groups on different levels during the project life-time and beyond: current and prospective students, staff of participating universities, higher educational society, and industry.

ANGEL aims to build the capacity necessary in eleven ASEAN Universities for balancing the high potential economic growth and innovation in the partner countries with their lack of capacities in green entrepreneurship as well as resolving entrenched issues and challenges of poverty, low quality jobs in the informal sector, digital divide and leadership gaps.ANGEEL will support develop an innovative green entrepreneurial-leadership ecosystem that will foster:• Guidance: an online guide will offer practical, personalized information for building and leading a green enterprise; a targeted training programme, complemented with personal coaching will support the creation of start-ups.• Engagement: a university network will reach and mobilize both internal and external stakeholders through its ANGEL- Innovate Unit. Internal stakeholders would include faculty members, administrative staff, researchers, students and relevant external partners could be social entrepreneurs, start-ups and government agencies that relates to green entrepreneurship). The ANGEL- Innovate unit will orient learners to the process of design thinking; effective and responsible leadership, supporting grassroot green entrepreneurship and developing patent/copyright. • Exchanges and sharing: the ANGEL-Hub will be a centre for the development of early-stage startups in green technologies, energy and sustainable development; the ANGEL-Site will provide all the information for the development and visibility of startups; the ANGEL-Community will connect all relevant parties in the University and external stakeholders in exchanging experiences and ideas.• Support: the ANGEL-Enterprise team will have the mission to support and advance ANGEL in the long term through a) the development of expertise in the commercialization of Universities’ knowledge and technology, b) partnership-building with the external regional/national/international entrepreneurial ecosystem.
