The goal of the XTREAMIS-DP Network is to build French leadership for the bid on the H2020 CALL REVERSING INEQUALITIES AND PROMOTING FAIRNESS, REV-INEQUAL-2016-1: Contemporary radicalisation trends in Europe (Budget: EUR 5 million). The long term goal of XTREAMIS-DP is to become a major French-led international reference on radicalism, extremism, inequalities and fairness issues, for policy makers, researchers, frontliners, field workers, families, and the society at large. The XTREAMIS-DP Network grounds in 17 countries concerned by radicalisation: FRA, ALG, ARG, BEL, BRA, GBR, GRE, INA, ISR, ITA, NED, POL, POR, ROU, SPA, TUN, USA. It brings a massive, concentrated, elite taskforce in psychology, anthropology, criminology, history, political science, sociology in a collaborative research and a truly international university-led movement to tackle the major challenge of contemporary radicalisation trends in Europe and beyond. The Network brings together members of existing European networks (COST IS 1205) and global networks (REMOSCO-MSH Paris) that already do multidisciplinary work together, with new members and new disciplinary perspectives, in order to move together towards a unified framework to define the scientific, practical and economic interests for a successful French-led bid on the H2020 REV-INEQUAL-2016-1 Call. The Network aims to be open, collaborative, respectful of cultural, gender, and age diversity and will progressively include young researchers and specialists from all the concerned regions in Europe and the world. It shall help European researchers gain access to local resources, and ensure that the output resonates with local specialists on the ground. The scientific focus of the Network is radicalisation, violence and hate crime in their various forms. Central objectives: - To understand radical groups and individuals in various sites and of various types: what is similar what is different? - To prevent: how can the attractiveness of these groups be countered and reduced? - To reverse: how can those who became members exit from such groups? - To uncover, through concerted empirical data collection, the social psychological processes that underly contemporary radicalisation trends. The Nework aims to: 1. Mapping a sound overview of the scope of recent radicalisation trends A major strength of the Network is its composition. Leading scholars and researchers from European countries: FRA, BEL, GBR, GRE, ITA, NED, POL, POR, ROU, SPA, and from relevant non-European countries, ALG, INA, ISR, TUN, USA, ARG, BRA. This will allow a comparative description of the primary types of radicalisation threats and evaluate what has been done to address them, what policies have been successful, or not, and why, to conduct well-coordinated studies on the scope and varieties in radicalisation and de-radicalisation trends. 2. Dynamics and drivers of radicalisation, and effective barriers to its spread. a. Internet and other communication technologies b. Self-radicalisation mainly among the young c. Gender aspects of radicalisation d. Influence of inequalities, discrimination and their connections with ideologies e. The impact of stigmatisation upon radicalization f.
