Abstract

Consulta del Consejo de Estado a Felipe IV sobre el memorial remitido por Guillermo Cahesio, sacerdote irlandés, vicario perpetuo de la villa de Clonmelia, en Irlanda, que ha sido colegial en los colegios irlandeses de las Universidades de Santiago y Salamanca. Ahora le han aconsejado que estudie los Sagrados Cánones, para decidir en materia de matrimonios, divorcios, cosanguineidad…, por lo que ha ido a la Universidad de Alcalá a estudiar la dicha facultad, y porque se halla falto de medios para continuar, suplica se le haga merced de alguna ayuda de costa. Al Consejo le parece que no es necesario introducir que haya canonistas irlandeses para la Misión, porque si no seguirían estudiando los candidatos y nunca irían allá, además de que la Teología se ha tenido siempre por bastante para disputar con herejes y convencerles. Respuesta del rey: "Está bien".
