Abstract

Consulta del Consejo de Estado a Felipe IV en relación con dos cartas anteriores del conde de Oñate, embajador en Roma, en que proponía que el reino de Irlanda quedara en manos de Felipe IV o don Juan José de Austria. El marqués de Leganés, el de Villafranca, don Francisco de Melo y el marqués de Valparaíso agradecen al embajador en Roma sus sugerencias e interés, pero estiman que, dado el difícil momento que vive la Monarquía, no es oportuno la conquista de un nuevo reino. Respuesta del rey al margen: "Como parece, porque no estamos en tiempo de conquistar nuevos reinos, sino de recuperar los perdidos y mantener los propios".
