Medios que se propusieron para la Misión de Irlanda

Abstract

Medios que se proponen para la fundación de la Misión de la Compañía de Jesús de Irlanda. Se recoge la orden del fallecido Felipe III por la cual se destinaban 2.000 ducados para socorrer a los eclesiásticos irlandeses, 1.000 de ellos situados en el obispado de Cádiz, en cabeza del Patriarca de las Indias, don Diego de Guzmán, desde 1613, estando aún si consignar los otros 1.000. También recoge la intención de Felipe III de fundar un colegio de irlandeses en Valladolid, misión que encomendó a su limosnero mayor don Álvaro de Carvajal y que no pudo culminar por haber fallecido, quedando el encargo para Diego de Guzmán. Finalmente se suplica al rey Felipe IV sea servido de fundar otro colegio para los padres irlandeses de la Compañía de Jesús en Santiago para lo cual Felipe III tenía hecha merced por su Real Cámara de un sitio en la ciudad donde estaba antiguamente la Audiencia de aquel reino.
